I just got back from a 4 hour class on using an iPad. My head is swimming and trying to make sense of it all.
One disappointment with it already is that you can't hook it up to an overhead projector. Hopefully that is the only disappointment - in the mean time, here is a college student's point of view...

Interesting opinion from the college student, as well as others that commented on his article.
ReplyDeleteI know you said that your head is 'trying to make sense of using the iPad' but I would really like to hear your opinion of how or if the iPad would be good to use from a teachers perspective and / or a students perspective. The opinion was from a college students and it makes me wonder if k-12 education expectations and uses would be different.
Amy,
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure how I feel about the iPad. There is no doubt it is "cool", but it is a fairly expensive toy. There are apps out there, but not a huge amount of free ones for education. To date, I'm not entirely sold on it, but I still have a lot to learn - I'll have to let you know.
Did you get an iPad or just go to a class on one? I have yet to hold one in my hands and I am curious, as Amy was, to see what it would be like to have one in the classroom. That is interesting that it does not plug into a projector as that is one of the first things I would have wanted to do with it. Thank you for the article. It is interesting reading the college students point of view. The pro that jumped out to me was that the student felt it was a pro not to be able to multi-task. I know that I am guilty of trying to do much at once while on the computer.
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteYes, I did get one! I am eyeing another class during the Christie McAuluff (sp?) conference in Dec. that hopefully gives more ideas about using it in the classroom.
It made me laugh to hear you proclaim your guilt about multi-tasking :) An iPad may be frustrating for you! Although, you could solve everything by having TWO iPads!
