I know that Halloween is over, but I’m intrigued with a couple of pumpkins we bought from the Knights of Columbus pumpkin stand. I picked out the grey-blue pumpkins because they had character. I was delighted when I started carving into one to find that the flesh is almost a florescent orange. I was also amazed to find out that the skin was thin (but waxy hard) and the flesh was very thick. This lent itself to carving a different way than I am use to. Actually, my way of carving is using a power drill and making lots of holes all over…but that is a different pumpkin post.
Here are some sites to see real pumpkin art:
Extreme Pumpkins!!! I have so many ideas for next year. Do you and your family carve pumpkins every year? Do you tend to google ideas after you purchase your pumpkins or do you have a pretty good idea about what you are going to create when you pick the pumpkin?
ReplyDeleteCharisse,
ReplyDeleteI like that you picked an unusual pumpkin-grey/blue skin-with the underneath orange. What a wonderful accent to the design. It made it even more creative! Were there any other unusual skin colors? I've only ever seen orange and I feel I'm missing out! Also, we always carve our pumpkins so we can light them up, do you light yours up or just carve faces?
I read your blog last week and then like an airhead I forgot to leave a comment!! :O
@SElkins,
ReplyDeleteYes, we carve every year. This year only my 10 year old and myself carved :( My teenage boys are...well teenagers. They did like the extreme pumpkins and thought it would be cool to put a flare inside their sister's pumpkin. I squashed that idea pretty fast - excuse the pun :)
@Amy,
ReplyDeleteThis was the first year I saw the gray/blue pumpkins - they are so cool looking. The picture doesn't do it justice. Normally we do the traditional carving - this year I got lazy and didn't cut the top off or scrap out the seeds.
